Liz makes a pom-pom wreath

Today, as I was browsing through Pinterest, I saw a cute tutorial on how to make a pom-pom. Of course, it was made with one of those fancy-shmancy pom-pom makers that you buy at the craft store. Now, I don't have one of those, but I do remember my mom teaching me how to make pom-poms with a fork! So I searched my cutlery drawer for the biggest fork I have (a serving fork), got to crafting and started making a wreath. Here's how I made my cute pom-pom wreath:

I used a bunch of yarn (four different colors), a giant fork, a pair of scissors, and embroidery hoop and later a crochet hook (not shown).
Now place a 8" or so piece of thread between two of the prongs of the fork. Then wrap a ton of yarn around the fork. I usually wrap the yarn around 60-80 times.
With the long piece of yarn you had between the prongs of the fork, tie a really tight double knot around all of the yarn.
Cut all of the loops and fluff it up until it resembles a pom-pom. Trim the strings until it's an almost perfect circle. Make sure to leave two long strings (they're hidden in the second photo) so you can tie it to the embroidery hoop.
Arrange all of your pom-poms around the embroidery hoop. I decided to make 12 pom-poms in four different colors (three of each color). Tie them on and cut of the excess yarn.
I decided to crochet a bow for the top of the wreath. You can find a tutorial for that here. I added some strings to make it resemble ties.
Cute, right? And very easy!
I bet you could do wreaths for all sorts of holidays, like Independence Day or Christmas. Very cute! And the best part? You can cut off the pom-poms and reuse the embroidery hoop.
Have a great Saturday everyone.

    1. Thanks so much! I like it because you can untie or cut off the pom-poms when you get bored and use the hoop for another project!
