Liz makes crocheted skull coasters

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile. I had final exams and presentations and papers and blah-blah-blah, but now I'm done and can get back to making things! I'm going to see my family this weekend for the first time since Christmas! Since my sister's 30th birthday is early next week, we're going to have a birthday party for her on Saturday. I decided to make her some coasters in the shape of skulls as a present and I sure hope she likes them. Here's how you can crochet some too:

1. Chain 14.
2. Slip stitch into first chain stitch to make a circle.
3. Chain 14 again.
4. Slip stitch into 14th from last stitch to make two little hoops. At this point, your work should look like a tiny little pair of glasses.
5. Now make eighteen single crochets in each circle.
6. Slip stitch four times until you get to the left side of your work. Chain one.
7. Turn and single crochet all the way across until you get to the last stitch. Slip stitch into the last stitch.
8. Turn but do not chain one. Single crochet all the way across until you get to the last stitch. Slip stitch into the last stitch.
9. Repeat step 8.
10. Cut your yarn, but make sure to leave a 35" tail. You'll use this later.
11. Grab the yarn from your skein and join it in the fifth stitch from the center of the eyes.
12. Single crochet in the next three stitches.
13. Chain four.
14. Single crochet in the fifth row from where you just chain stitched. Single crochet for next three stitches.
15. Chain one and turn. Single crochet across what you just crocheted in steps 11-14. Now turn, but don't chain this time.
16. Slip stitch in the next two stitches. Chain three.
17. Triple crochet in the next six stitches. Chain one, turn.
18. Single crochet all the way across.
Now using the 35" tail you made in step 10, single crochet around the entire skull. Cut off excess yarn and hide your ends.
Now you're done! Pretty cute right? I made five coasters total just using some scrap yarn from previous projects.
I also made a simple, little basket to hold all of the coasters. I really hope she likes them, although I'm almost positive she will.
Have a great weekend everybody!
Love, Liz
