Liz makes crocheted slippers

Last night my feet were cold, and instead of strolling to my bedroom to snatch a pair of socks, I decided to crochet myself some cute slippers. Because of the bows and the bright red yarn, they remind me of Dorthy's bright red shoes from The Wizard of Oz. Here's how I made them:

First, make a magic loop. Chain two and then make six double crochets into the center. It will appear as if seven double crochets are in the middle due to the two chains you made in the beginning. Slip stitch to make a circle. Chain two.

Make one double crochet into the same stitch where you just chained two. Make two double crochets in each stitch after that. It will appear as if you have 14 double crochets. Slip stitch to close. Chain two.

Again, make two double crochets into each stitch. You should have 28 double crochets. Slip stitch to close and chain two.

From now on, your going to make one double crochet into each stitch. When it starts resembling a small hat, place it on your foot. I wanted my slippers to cover my "toe-cleavage" so after eight rows, I stopped. Yours might differ, because I wear (egad!) size eleven shoes.

At this point, you'll be going back and forth between places that would sit at the sides of your feet, using a double crochet in each stitch. For me, that was seventeen stitches. I kept going back and forth...

...And back and forth until I reached the end of my foot, which for me was sixteen rows.

After I was convinced it would fit my giant boat foot, I put the heel inside out and folded it.

After that, I single crocheted it closed.

After I knew it was secure, I casted off, cut off the tail, wove in the end and turned the shoe right side out.

In order to make the slipper tighter around my foot, I single crocheted around the inside edge of the slipper.

I also decided to add a bow to each slipper. You can see how I crochet bows here. I think they turned out great! What do you think?

I think they'd also be cute with a contrasting color as the bow and the single-crocheted edge. After posting them on Facebook and getting a ton of compliments, I think I'll make a ton of them for Christmas presents! :)
