Liz makes coffee cup sleeve

I love working with felt and I love embroidering. I thought it was time to bring the two together with this felt coffee sleeve adorned with random french knots. It's a pretty easy craft and I think it'd make a super fun gift for a teacher or neighbor or something. Let's go ahead and make one, shall we?
Supplies you'll need include two pieces of felt, a pen, a pair of scissors, three or four different colors of embroidery thread, a cardboard coffee sleeve and a safety pin.
Use the cardboard coffee sleeve as a pattern. Place it on top of the felt and trace around it with the pen.
Do this with the other color of felt as well and cut them both out.
Now go crazy with french knots!
Don't know how to embroider french knots? I'll show you how!
1. Pull the needle up through where you want your french knot to be.
2. Wrap the thread around the needle three times, making sure the needle is as close to the felt as you can get it.
3. Push the needle right next to where you pulled the needle up in step 1.
4. Pull all the way so it's tight. But don't pull too tight or else the french knot will come out on the other side!
Make lots of different french knots in lots of different colors.
Match the two felt pieces and wrap them around a coffee cup.
Slide the felt pieces off the coffee mug...
...And safety pin it!
Now start a blanket stitch around the bottom of the coffee sleeve.
Go all the way around. Knot your ends somewhere where you can't see it on the outside.
Blanket stitch the top as well. Remove the safety pin and sew the two sides together.
And that's it! The french knots on the purple coffee sleeve kind of reminds me of flowers...
...And the french knots on the blue coffee sleeve kind of remind me of stars. The white french knots are actually glow in the dark!
Pretty cool. Just so you know, they're for sale on my Etsy shop, Essential Handmades. I recently just opened it up again so shop 'til you drop.
Have a great week!
Love, Liz
