Liz makes a skirt out of a shirt

Today I was thinking about how much I love Spring break and Spring and flowers and warm weather... And then it hit me! I should make a Spring-y (is that a word?) skirt out of a Hawaiian shirt! Here in New Mexico, I think it's almost time to be wearing skirts every day!
Let's make a skirt!

In order to make this super cute skirt, you'll need to grab a button-up shirt. Cut it right below the armpits.
Then you'll need to sew the opening (where the buttons are) shut. Try and sew right over the existing stitches.
It should look like this.
Now fold the top hem down 1/8" and then another 1". Sew down. Mine looks a little wonky, but this doesn't really bother me... Does that make me a bad crafter? Oh well.
Leave a gap. You can tell here that I sewed down the 1/8" before I sewed down the 1.25". You can do that if you wish. Get enough 1" wide elastic to fit around your waist snugly (but comfortably) plus one inch. Pin a safety pin on the end and push the elastic through.
When you have the elastic go all the way through the skirt, put one end on top of the other and sew a square. After that, spread the fabric over the elastic so it's even all the way around.
Sew the gap you left earlier closed with your sewing machine.
Now you're done! How easy was that?

Super easy if you ask me. If you can sew a few lines and you have access to some elastic, then you're all set! I hope you're all having a great weekend!
Love, Liz
