Liz makes a felt pennant pillow

This week, I've been attempting to make some fun and simple toys for my niece and nephews for Easter. I made my two-year-old nephew a stuffed cat and my four-year-old niece a stuffed owl. When it came to thinking of what to make my five-year-old nephew, I knew he wouldn't want a stuffed animal. He's into video games and Angry Birds -- and not stuffed animals. I thought of making a simple pennant pillow with his name on it. He's in kindergarten and is learning how to read, so I thought it would be really special for him to have something with his name on it. Let's get started!

Get a piece of felt and cut it into a triangle. The easiest way to do this is by cutting from corner to center.
Cut two more triangles in a contrasting color. I chose to cut one blue and two orange.
On one of the ones you have two of, write the name you want to have on the pillow. Since my nephew's name is Daniel, I had to fit those six letters on the triangle. I did this with a marker, but you can use a water soluble marker or pen, or whatever you have on hand.
Cut out the letters.
Place them on your contrasting triangle and pin them.
Sew them with a sewing machine. DO NOT back-stitch.
Instead of back-stitching, just stitch around the letter until you get back to your first stitch. Grab a needle and thread the threads through the letter. Turn the felt around and tie the threads in knots. Trim excess thread.
This is what your pennant should look like after you've sewn all your letters on.
Grab your third triangle. Place right sides together.
Sew all the way around, but leave a gap. Trim your corners.
Turn inside out.
Stuff with some poly-fil.
Ladder-stitch the opening closed.
And you're finished! Here's the finished pennant along with owl and the cat I made. I love how they all turned out, don't you?
Have a great weekend!
Love, Liz
