As you can probably tell, this post is slightly different than my usual posts. However, I just had to share the great news. Let me start by saying that I have a crafty family. My mom and one of my older sisters are extremely creative and to prove it, they decided to enter a recycled art show in the town they live in. My sister, Suzie, entered a pop-top purse and my mom entered a clarinet lamp. Guess what? They tied for first place!
I am absolutely in love with the purse my sister made. She actually let me keep it! What a nice sister. She made it with different colored ribbon and pop-top tabs from soda/beer cans. Who knew recycling could be so fashionable? I can't wait to carry it around and get tons of compliments!
I wish I had more pictures of my mom's clarinet lamp because it is really awesome. Not only did she recycle an old clarinet in to the lamp base; she reecycled some old piano music into a lamp shade! I really love the textured bottom of the lamp shade -- it kind of looks braided or something, doesn't it?
Along with winning (tying for) first place, she also won the People's Choice award. My mom is the coolest mom ever. I hope you are all inspired by this post. I really love the idea of reusing items you would usually throw away.
Love, Liz
